[notes to a neophyte]

Switch series by JJ Levine

In this series, Levine plays with ideas of gender by taking portraits of two models, posing as couples might at prom, and then having them exchange gendered attire before taking another portrait. Portraits are then juxtaposed, appearing to be different people/couples, when it is actually the same pair of models. The artists says that their aim is “to problematize preconceived notions regarding sex, gender, and the body in addition to complicating the identities of the subjects whose ‘true’ genders are never disclosed.”
